Honda CBR929 Motorcycle Parts & Information

In the world of Sport Bikes, the CBR929 has become somewhat of a legend. The Honda CBR929 is the 2000/2001 version of the original CBR900RR, which was designed by Tadeo Baba. When first launched by Honda, back in 1992, it set the standards, for the entire production Sports Bike industry. The {+power -weight} phenomenon, an equation that redefined the industry, began with Kawasaki’s GPZ900R.

However, it was taken to a whole new dimension by the CBR. Whereas the Kawasaki had begun an evolution, within the Sports Bike class, the CBR began a revolution. Known outside the United States as the ‘Fireblade’, the first CBR set the standards in the lightweight Sports Bike class, weighing in at just 453lbs, and boasting an 893cc inline 4 engine.

The 1994 Fireblade received some slight modifications. Including improvements to the shift drum, and upgrades to the suspension. The only engine change, was to replace an aluminum valve cover with an aluminum one. 1996 saw the first big changes, from the original CBR900 design, it was the CBR918RR. For this model, the chassis and suspension underwent some major changes. Honda completely redesigned the fork and shock components: Making the frame and swing arm bigger, the walls thinner, and placing the swing arm pivot higher.

In 1996, Honda also upgraded the front discs and brake calipers; with dual disc, 310mm brakes on the front, and a single, 220mm, disc on the back. The alternator was downsized, and the engine bumped up to 918cc; the bore and stroke increased, from 70.00mm x 88mm, to 71.0 mm x 58.0 mm; delivering improved compression. A throttle position sensor was also added, along with a bigger muffler and curved radiator. The bodywork and riding position was also altered. The handlebars being positioned slightly higher and a touch further back, as well as downsizing the fuel tank.

From 1996, until 1998, the CBR remained fairly unchanged, bar color options. On the 1998 CBR920cc model, there were a few minor updates to the chassis. The engine was topped up by 1cc more. However, the most significant change was a revision of 80% of the engines components, to reduce weight and minimize friction. The combustion chambers and porting were also redesigned: the gearbox ratios revised, and a lighter, more compact clutch pack incorporated. A larger radiator was also added, along with new pistons and an all new, stainless steel, exhaust header.

The CBR929, produced in 2000/2001, underwent some major revisions. Larger valves and more over-square cylinder dimensions were incorporated into a new, 929cc, liquid cooled, inline 4 stroke, EFI, fuel injected, engine. A lightweight and strong, titanium exhaust system, with a HTEV (Honda Titanium Exhaust Valve) was made standard. The HTEV automatically, and consistently, adjusts the exhaust diameter, in relation to the engine’s rpm. Therefore, ensuring excellent low to mid range performance. Honda CBR929 riders will always agree, this bike is fast, with an awesome mid range. In the nineties, you would be sure to see the Honda CBR929 Motorcycle at any descent kind of street faring, biker hang out. Ride out on a classic Honda CBR929 Motorcycle today, and you are daring to be different. But then, the CBR Fireblade series always did set out to break the mould.
