Honda CBR1100XX Motorcycle Parts & Information

When the Honda CBR1100XX Motorcycle (AKA Honda Blackbird) was first released in 1996, it was the fastest production bike in the world. Since then, the CBR1100XX has earned a reliable reputation, for being a smooth, powerful, and very, very, quick… Sport Touring bike. Its reputation being further enhanced when Dale Wilson (with buns of lead!) set a new motorcycle endurance record, riding a Honda CBR1100XX Motorcycle for seven consecutive days. The last CBR1100XX was imported into the Northern US territories in 2003, and production ended towards the end of 2007.

From 1996 to 1999, there were no major updates made to the CBR1100XX. In 1999, Honda made several major modifications. Hondas Programmed Fuel Injection - PGM - was introduced, replacing the previous, carbureted system. Along with a Ram Air system, which utilizes aerodynamic pressure, feeding the engine more air, when touching speeds of over 200km/hr. To accommodate this system, the oil cooler was also made wider and shorter. Other improvements included a combined linked brake system, increased fuel tank capacity, and the removal of, the now defunct, choke lever. A block connector, solely used to test the bikes electronics, caused a few problems with the 1999 and 2000 CBR1100XX models. This was resolved by Honda, who replaced the wiring looms, under warranty, of course.

The CBR1100XX was Honda’s first bike released into the ‘niche market’, hyper sport touring class. Since 2001, when a new central dashboard with digital instruments was added, there have been no significant changes; apart from the color schemes. Australian models did receive ABS brakes in 2007, whereas, for the rest, a linked braking system is the norm. The CBR1100XX has always been admired for its exceptionally smooth ride and sophisticated feel, as much as its elegant design and power. This bike, quite simply, eats up the road. Primarily, thanks to its lightweight, liquid cooled, 1137cc, inline-four, DOHC engine. The side mounted cam chain and super slim cylinder sleeve spacing help to reduce the size and weight of the engine.

The Honda CBR1100XX Motorcycle has a lightweight, twin-spar aluminum frame, with a diamond configuration. An extruding, aluminum, 40x90mm, triple box section, swing-arm offers outstanding rigidity. Honda’s unique Pro-Link rear suspension is not connected to the main frame, save for anchoring. Instead, the system is completely self-contained, within the actual swing-arm. This innovative design significantly contributes toward the balance and response of the CBR1100XX. A Honda Multi-Action System (HMAS) cartridge front fork provides enhanced, smooth, handling in any riding conditions. The HMAS system is exclusive to Honda, and was derived from many years of developing championship winning Race Bikes.

The Honda CBR1100XX Motorcycle comes with a pile of additional features, all adding to its comfort and practicality. Two things which are high on the criteria list, for any bike in the cruiser class. The CBR has been put through extensive wind tunnel testing, and overall, has incredibly low frontal drag. Therefore, it delivers a high level of rider protection. Even so, a tall windscreen gives the rider added protection, during less favorable riding conditions. Indented ducts on the front fender lowers wind pressure, which helps steering by reducing the force taken by the front wheel. The mechanics and ergonomics of the CBR1100XX make this cruiser one hell of a ride. So, just kick back and watch the scenery!
